Google has introduced a new feature called Magic Compose that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to help users compose text messages. Currently in its beta version, the feature is initially available to users aged 18 and older. It is only available in the US on Android devices.

With the aim of enhancing users’ texting experience, Google has added its AI chatbot named Bard to its messaging app. The Magic Compose feature is specifically designed for RCS (Rich Communication Services) conversations in the Messages app.
To access this feature, users must enable it through the app’s Settings menu.
Tapping the pencil icon next to the text input field will give users the option to use Magic Compose suggestions to start a conversation or rephrase their message in different tones and styles.
Magic Compose currently supports seven different styles: Remix, Excited, Chill, Shakespearean, Lyrical, Formal, and Short. However, there is one important caveat to be aware of. The feature temporarily sends 20 previous messages, including emojis, reactions, and URLs, to Google servers to generate relevant suggestions.
It is important to note that if users use RCS with end-to-end encryption (E2EE), these messages are immediately discarded. Google neither stores the data nor uses it to train its AI models.
Google emphasizes that the sole purpose of accessing these messages is to provide users with customized suggestions that are relevant to their ongoing conversations.
The company assures users that the privacy of their data is of the utmost importance and that no information is retained or used outside the immediate context of generating recommendations.
